Veteran-led organization evacuates 391 Americans and Allies from Afghanistan one month since U.S. withdrawal
More than 800 people receiving basic needs and safe housing; nearly
4,000 on evacuation waitlist
LAKE WALES, Fla. – Operation Recovery, a veteran-led nonprofit, has worked with its partners to evacuate nearly 400 U.S. citizens and Allies from Afghanistan as of one-month since the United States made a complete withdrawal from the country. The organization was established by former members of the U.S. military to expedite the rescue of at-risk individuals, including Afghans who put themselves in harm’s way while serving with American service members for 20 years.
The rapidly growing list of individuals who have contacted Operation Recovery to request safe passage stands at nearly 4,000. Operation Recovery is also working with organizations on the ground in Afghanistan to provide food, water, medical care, and safe lodging to 800 individuals considered to be in particularly grave danger while they await their evacuation. Those rescued by Operation Recovery and its partners include former U.S. military support staff, women, children, judges, journalists, educators, and others known to be targets for retribution.
“The threats that have been leveled at the individuals we are evacuating include torture, sex slavery, and death,” explained Helen Perry, the organization’s executive director. “Our vast network of experts and partner organizations here at home and in Afghanistan are allowing us to rescue these people safely and quickly, but the need remains vast and urgent.”
Operation Recovery focuses its mission on the safe passage of American Citizens, Green Card holders and U.S. Visa holders who have the legal right to travel. The organization is asking for continued contributions to sustain its ability to provide arrangements and air travel to the thousands of Americans and Allies who were left behind following the nation’s withdrawal. Donations can be made through the organization’s website OperationRecovery.org.
